History of Forest Park

In the early 1970's, a local real estate agent by the name of Bryce Latour created Forest Park. The original "design" consisted of a large parcel of land subdivided into several lots through a procedure known as "checkerboarding".

Through the efforts of the homeowners' association (which was then called the Forest Park East Homeowners' Association), Forest Park was adopted by Township of Cambridge in late 1975 (which is now part of the greater Nation Municipality).

A look back at moments in Forest Park History:

In 1984, the sidewalk, which accommodates pedestrians walking along the roadway between the four streets and Cambridge Public School, was constructed.
In 1984, storm sewers were installed on the four streets and up to Cambridge Public School.

In 1992, the name "Forest Park" was officially entered into the Provincial records for Geographic Names in Cambridge Township. Later editions of provincial and federal maps (and in related publications) now include this name.

Ever wonder about the trees adjacent to the nature trail in Forest Park, north of the Castor River?

In December 1992, a Forest Park resident contacted the South Nation River Conservation Authority (SNRCA) in answer to an advertisement in a local newspaper about annual tree planting services by the SNRCA. From this effort, a "reforestation project" was born and in the Spring of 1993, the South Nation River Conservation Authority planted over 4000 pine and spruce trees.
